At the end of the 19th century, during the devastating phylloxera epidemic—a tiny North American aphid that destroyed vineyards across France—Emile Bodin was only 18 when he and his friend Joseph Savon undertook a bold initiative: grafting vines brought back from Texas onto the estate’s vineyards. The result was a complete success. The wine of Cassis was reborn—transformed from a modest muscat into a dry, mineral wine with a strong and distinctive character.

Over the years, Bodin shaped this place in his own image, celebrating nature, animals, and the Provencal art of living. He formed a friendship with Frederic Mistral and the Felibrige movement, key figures of regional culture. Inspired by these lands, Mistral described the wine as “a clear diamond scented with rosemary, heather, and myrtle.”

Emile Bodin passed away peacefully at the age of 88, as if protected by the gentle spirit of the Provence he so deeply loved—leaving behind far more than a property: a true legacy.
